Plastic scintillators, the main imported component of the radiation detectors, have been successfully synthesized by controlled thermal polymerization of monomers, such as styrene, vinyl toluene, vinyl xylene, etc., in the presence of suitable initiator and fluorescence additives. The scintillator samples produced were of cylindrical shape with 2 inch diameter and different heights. The process is capable of producing the same in any required shape and size.

These scintillators can be used for making radiation monitors for target applications, such as low range survey monitoring, contamination monitoring, etc. Performance of the radiation monitor is matching well with that of the imported ones.
