T2EHDGA is a key solvent/extractant used in actinide partitioning. It is a viscous liquid, which is used for the co-extraction of the trivalent lanthanides and actinides present in the nuclear waste by a solvent extraction process.
Parties with sound financial background, bulk chemical manufacturing facilities, R&D labs for quality assessment, and having experience in developing such specialty chemicals will be preferred.
T2EHDGA is a unique specialty chemical used in the treatment of nuclear waste to reduce its long-term radio-toxicity. This solvent specifically co-extracts the trivalent lanthanides and actinides present in the nuclear waste with the aim of sequestering the actinides which are primarily responsible for the long-term radio-toxicity of the waste. This co-extraction by T2EHDGA using a solvent extraction process helps in reducing the waste inventory, risks, monitoring time and costs of managing the nuclear waste.
INTRODUCTION
N, N, N', N'- Tetra-2-ethylhexyl-diglycolamide (T2EHDGA) (also referred to as N, N, N', N'-tetrakis (2-ethyl-1-hexyl)-3-oxapentane-1,5-diamide) is a specialty chemical used in a solvent extraction process for the treatment of highly radiotoxic waste generated by the nuclear reprocessing plants. This chemical/solvent is used to specifically co-extract the trivalent lanthanides and actinides present in the nuclear waste with the aim of sequestering the actinides and thereby, reducing the long-term radio-toxic hazards associated with the nuclear waste. T2EHDGA has been successfully deployed in two Waste Treatment Plants of DAE and will be incorporated into future nuclear waste management facilities as well. As such, this solvent will remain as an important extractant for nuclear waste management in India in the years to come. Hence, its production and availability at a competitive price on commercial scale is of paramount importance. T2EHDGA is a viscous liquid with a required purity of > 96% for process operations.
