Positive Airway Pressure (PAP) devices are used by patients suffering from sleep apnoea. The PAP devices work on the principle of delivering a prescribed air pressure into a patient’s airways that acts as a splint by keeping the airways from collapsing. The air delivered is just enough to push past any potential obstructions while maintaining a level of air flow that feels as close to natural breathing as possible. Device to Ease Apnoea problem (DEAP) is a Positive Airway Pressure (PAP) developed by DRHR, BARC. It provides CPAP, CPAP-R and BiPAP(S/T) modes of treatment.

The Hot-cell operations at Waste Immobilization Plant, BARC are carried out largely on the basis of video feedback from CCTV cameras installed inside the Hot-cell. These cameras require frequent replacement due to radiation damage, which leads to plant downtime and radiation dose to the operator who is carrying out the replacement. The Camera Shielding Systemdeveloped and installed at WIP provides arrangement for shielding to the electronic parts of the camera to enhance the life of the camera in the radiation field. The system provides Scan, Rotation, Zoom and Image Correction Facilities for proper coverage of area under observation.

The Microarrayer is a very precise computer controlled 3-axes robotics system to deposit high-density, gridded arrays of genomic DNA or similar biological materials at discrete locations in microscopic quantities. Such a capability permits for all possible genes that can be expressed in a given organism in a two-dimensional array at a high-density on a solid surface for high throughput analysis. These targets are then hybridized with fluorescence labeled complimentary sequences in a test sample (DNA or RNA). It is the first indigenously developed system in BARC and promises to make mutation detection, gene expression analysis and disease diagnosis in less time and is more efficient, thus revolutionizing in area of biotechnology and medicine.

Cancer is a major health problem in our country and Radiotherapy is one of the established methods for the treatment of localized cancers. In India, it is estimated that, there are more than two million cancer cases at any point of time, and more than one million new cancer cases are detected every year. Incidences of cancer are expected to rise significantly due to aging population, environmental degradation, changing lifestyle etc. However, due to the high costs of imported machines, there is an acute shortage of such treatment facilities in our country.
\r\nTo meet this shortfall, Bhabha Atomic Research Centre has developed a new generation TelecCobalt unit named Bhabhatron.
